Lakshadweep Islands

The Lakshwadeep archipelago consists of 36 islands some 200 to 300 Km of the Kerala coast. The islands are a northern extension of the Maldives chain. Ten of the islands are inhabited .They are adroit , Amini, Bitra, Chetlak, Kadmat, Kalpni, Kavaratti, Kiltan and Minicoy. The islands from the smallest of the Union Territories of India and are the country's only coral islands. Even after the conversion of Islam it still remains in the hands of the Hindu Raja. of Chirakkal.

Getting There & Away: Air NEPC flies Kochi- Aatti twice a week for Us$300 return.

Boat: Package tours by luxury ship are arranged through Sports Lakshwadeep Office, Indira Gandhi Rd, Willington Island, Kochi 682003.the ship Tipu Sultan and mv Bharat Seema, run for and five day trips to the islands.

Places to Stay:

Indian tourists on the regular boat cruises to the islands from Kochi usually stay on board there cruise ship. The 30 Room Bangaram island resort is the only option open to the foreign visitors. In the peek season from from mid dec to mid jan , accommodation and all meals costs US $220/230 for single/double

Sports offered:

Scuba diving, snorkeling, deep-sea fishing and boat trips are extra, but kayaks, catamarans and sailboats are available without charge.
